Iran

Iran shuts down it's human rights organization. Surprise surprise...Is there really a need for human rights watch in Iran anyway? Besides this evil human rights group may have had some political opinions.

The Iranians seem reasonable, we should negotiate. President Obama will take care of it.

Obama’s Undemocratic Plan for Central Planning on Carbon » The Foundry

Obama’s Undemocratic Plan for Central Planning on Carbon » The Foundry: "It is looking more and more likely that President Obama will not try to pass any new cap and trade legislation through Congress. This is not the good news it appears to be. Instead, Obama will try and marshal legal authority from existing statutes, primarily the Clean Air Act, to force the reorganization of the entire U.S. economy (all businesses use energy) without any meaningful input from the American people."

The Cross and the Crescent: "It is impossible for Islam to become moderate as long as Muslims believe in the Quran. This holy book promotes terrorism, war, martyrs, murder, torture, thievery, slavery, and intolerance. There is no freedom of choice in Islam, and Muslims are ordered to kill infidels."

Succinct, but needs repeating, throughout the world.

Bail Out

I own a Ford...

If most Americans choose to buy foreign cars...because they are free to do so, why would the BIG 3 get our money anyway??? Why or How could this happen? I don't like your product but regardless, you will get my money. In return, what do we get...not cars, we obviously don't want their cars. Hyundai is doing fine, Toyota, Audi ect...this is a Joke! Hyundai provides and creates plenty American jobs. Shouldn't they have a right to profit?

Fairness Doctrine

The government attempts to own the airways....

Look at it this way....

Conservative talk radio succeeds...liberal talk radio fails....Americans make that decision when they turn on the radio.

Talk radio is forced to hire liberals, so, radio stations broke and bankrupt because noone listens. The government steps in and bails them out...There you have it Government controlled media...good bye freedom!

Follow Up: The Cold War Continues...

Tucked away in a back corner of the star-ledger was an interesting article. Russia and Venezuela end Naval Exercises... So, let us get this straight, Russian warships were in Venezuela conducting naval practice, Is this not alarming? At the conclusion of the exercise was a celebration...Chavez has, "praised Russia for raising its profile in the Americas (because) the U.S. Navy...poses a threat."

Is it really true that given such circumstances Barack Obama would want to "cut our nuclear arsenal?" Surely the Soviets...oops, surely the Russians will be cutting theirs, right? How long will it be before a powerful communist presence exists in the Americas?

Help Me Understand

I spoke to a very smart republican friend this weekend...he lives across the country in a very liberal city/state and didn't vote. He did however inform me that he would have voted for Barack Obama because he feels we need change. I asked him exactly what he waned changed being that he has had a very good job and just left it for an even better job in sales...yes, he has moved into a higher tax bracket. He stuttered a little..."well, we've been war mongering." Sensing his weakness I attacked and he just claimed the guy is "intelligent and talented so I just though he was the better choice."

Hitler was intelligent and talented...what is going on here. Seeing Obama's recent appointments does give me some comfort though because it is obvious nothing will change at least for a few years...it's the same old same old. Sadly the country has grown complacent which will not turn out very favorable for our children...our children's children ans so on.

COMMUNISM?

Recognizing some of the communist undertones throughout the world one must ask, did we really win the cold war? Is the cold war over? Has it taken on a new face? Che Guevara is on t-shirts...he is idolized...

Welfare’s Devastating Effects

FrontPage Magazine: "It can be demonstrated beyond any shadow of a doubt that the modern ‘cultural trends’ which we lament have an economic cause, and are a direct result of state intervention. The Left do not see economic necessity as a proper reflection of actual human relationships, but some capitalist carbuncle. It’s clear now that in removing economic necessity from people’s lives (which is what welfare does), we risk sinking into barbarism."

How the Party of Defeat Lost Fallujah

FrontPage Magazine: "The outcome of a purely military contest in Fallujah was always a foregone conclusion – Coalition victory. But Fallujah was not simply a military action, it was a political and informational battle...The effects of media coverage, enemy information operations, and the fragility of the political environment conspired to force a halt to U.S. military operations.

Specifically, the report mentioned false claims of civilian casualties, singling out Al Jazeera and Al-Arabiyah footage. “Children were shown bespattered with blood; mothers were shown screaming and mourning day after day.” Leaked anonymously on the internet, the United Press International (UPI) news service reports that it has confirmed the Army report’s accuracy. It confirms the thesis of the book David Horowitz and I wrote together, Party of Defeat: that the most effective efforts against the war have emanated from American politicians and journalists."

My comment:
The anti-U.S. hacks in our government, educational institutions and the journalism profession cannot be that inept, dumb or gullible. Their strident anti-Americanism, in the early stages of a war, can only be explained in the context that they were operating not only to discredit and harm our military, and consequently the commander-in-chief, but in the larger global military-political theatre: These "useful idiots," or more accurately, enemy recruited "assets," seem to have been working for the very aims of our enemies worldwide, be it the worldwide socialist movement or it's like-minded brethren in the Islamo-fascist global jihad movement.

SteynOnline - THE DEATH OF THE AMERICAN IDEA

SteynOnline - THE DEATH OF THE AMERICAN IDEA: "If you went back to the end of the 19th century and suggested to, say, William McKinley that one day Americans would find themselves choosing between a candidate promising to guarantee your mortgage and a candidate promising to give 'tax cuts' to millions of people who pay no taxes he would scoff at you for concocting some patently absurd H.G. Wells dystopian fantasy. Yet it happened. Slowly, remorselessly, government metastasized to the point where it now seems entirely normal for Peggy Joseph of Sarasota, Fla., to vote for Obama because 'I won't have to worry about putting gas in my car. I won't have to worry about paying my mortgage.'"

America - The last great hope, "the last country of freedom and possibility." If America falls, "you have have nowhere to defect to." Here, he explains the world-wide Marxist strategy: Demoralization(20 years) - Destabilization(2-5 years) - Crisis(6+ weeks) - Change of Power-Normalization. Aired in 1985, I still feel it is relevant today. Most disturbing, the idea of "ideological subversion" and "psychological warfare." A great brainwashing process. Forget about espionage and secret agents. 85% of KGB budget was propaganda warfare. KGB sought out and recruited those who could formulate and influence public opinion. Self-important, cynical ego-centrist liars are the most recruit-able targets. Ardent leftists, or "useful idiots," were ignored, as a strategy. (These he says, are the first executed after revolution, doomed to execution.) Isn't this the state of American media, education and government today?

How The Mortgage Crisis REALLY Happened

Leftist Liberal Democrats want you to believe that the 1999 Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act is what caused this year's cataclysmic financial meltdown, whose effects are spreading worldwide. They want you to believe that, because then they can make a feeble attempt to pin it on Republicans, and by association in the 2008 election, John McCain. (Even though Bill Clinton and a huge majority of Democrats supported the bill.) This false connection will also aid in their attempts to "re-regulate" the mythical "laissez-faire" financial sector. To me, McCain's political posture on this issue was perhaps the greatest mis-step of his campaign. It allowed the economy to be the number one issue, and gave voters the perception of Republican financial incompetence, when in fact it could have been, and should have been, a Democratic albatross. McCain played defense on this issue, and appeared too bipartisan and reveling in Wall Street bashing, which made him sound exactly like the opponent he was trying to distinguish himself from.

Please read this October Investors Business Daily article posted below, and draw your own conclusions. Then read this handy American Thinker summary, also published at the world-class website, ibdeditorials.com . [Why The Mortgage Crisis Happened]

Dems Blame Gramm Act For Crisis; Experts Disagree

BY SEAN HIGGINS
INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY
Posted 10/6/2008

These are awkward days for former Rep. Jim Leach. The Iowa Republican crossed party lines to endorse Barack Obama. But now Democrats, including Obama, say a bill he co-authored is responsible for the mortgage crisis.

"We cannot expect to be on the (same) wavelength on everything," Leach told IBD. Leach, now a visiting professor at Princeton, blames lax oversight of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the Securities and Exchange Commission's 2004 move to ease leverage limits. Bank
regulation isn't the issue, he says.

"This problem relates to the housing industry, to mortgage instruments," he said. "The grave congressional and legislative error is on Fannie and Freddie. The great two executive branch aspects are the securities regulators' failure and insurance regulators' failure."

But for many Democrats, the credit crisis has a simple villain: the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. They think the GOP-authored 1999 law caused the meltdown — and they want voters to see it that way too. That's what has happened so far. Recent polls show a swing to Democrats, even though they spent years blocking any curbs on Freddie and Fannie. If they win big, they'll have a mandate to heavily regulate financial firms their way.

In a September release, Obama's camp said the 1999 law put too little effort into "modernizing supervision of the financial industry. "Nearly a decade later, our financial markets — and everyday Americans—are paying the price."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said last month that ex-GOP Sen. Phil Gramm, "was responsible for deregulation in the financial services industries that paved the way for much of the (current) crisis."

Pinning the blame on Gramm not only tars Republicans and free markets, but John McCain, R-Ariz. Gramm was a campaign adviser. But experts see scant evidence it had anything to do with the crisis. Many say it's helped limit the fallout by letting commercial banks like JPMorgan Chase buy ailing investment banks like Bear Stearns. But with voters looking for scapegoats, Republicans and deregulation are under fire. A recent CBS poll found 45% of respondents said the government regulates too little. Just 21% said too much.

Gramm-Leach-Bliley repealed the 1933 Glass-Steagall Act, which separated commercial and investment banking. U.S. banks had urged the change, noting their European peers faced no such curbs. The new law allowed banks to become financial supermarkets, with a full array of products. Most investment banks stayed independent. The bill was passed 90-8 in the Senate and 362-57 in the House. President Clinton signed it and defends the act to this day.

Latter-day critic Reid voted yes. Obama wasn't in the Senate. But his vice presidential pick, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., voted yes. Neither Reid's nor Obama's office responded to requests for comment.

There is no link between Gramm-Leach-Bliley and recent bank failures, said Pete Wallison, an economist with the conservative American Enterprise Institute. "All of the investment banks and securities firms that have gotten into trouble . . . were independent banks," he said. "So the elimination of Glass-Steagall had absolutely nothing to do with their financial problems." Wallison pins commercial bank failures on bad mortgages, not on any brokerage arm.

Dean Baker, co-director of the liberal Center for Economic and Policy Research, says the bill deserves some blame for today's crisis. "(The crisis) is mostly derivative instruments — (the act) just made it harder for the SEC to regulate those instruments," he said. Yet Baker admits the SEC showed little interest in regulating derivatives under Clinton or Bush.

We Blew It: "Let us bend over and kiss our ass goodbye. Our 28-year conservative opportunity to fix the moral and practical boundaries of government is gone--gone with the bear market and the Bear Stearns and the bear that's headed off to do you-know-what in the woods on our philosophy.

An entire generation has been born, grown up, and had families of its own since Ronald Reagan was elected. And where is the world we promised these children of the Conservative Age? Where is this land of freedom and responsibility, knowledge, opportunity, accomplishment, honor, truth, trust, and one boring hour each week spent in itchy clothes at church, synagogue, or mosque? It lies in ruins at our feet, as well it might, since we ourselves kicked the shining city upon a hill into dust and rubble. The progeny of the Reagan Revolution will live instead in the universe that revolves around Hyde Park."

The Commissars Of Climate Change

The Commissars Of Climate Change - Forbes.com:

"It's not just income taxes that might trash the dreams of Joe the Plumber.

Ready or not, Joe and the rest of us are also about to get mugged by the commissars of climate change. On this, I've got a bipartisan beef, since both John McCain and Barack Obama have bought into the panicked Al Gore storyline that the earth has a man-made 'fever.' Both candidates are promising to meet it with dramatic and costly new forms of government control."

It is my hope, that Americans are not duped into the biggest power grab in history, simply because it is wrapped in the veil of saving Planet Earth from the one-hundreth percent (.01) increase in the amount of man-made carbon-dioxide emissions. As Rossett states ..."[It] is a road map to state meddling in every aspect of daily life."

FrontPage Magazine

Fromone of my favorite opinionators ...

FrontPage Magazine: "A Historic Victory"

I went to my polling station to vote about 2:30PM. There was one person in line in front of me and my wait was about 2 seconds. So much for the paranoia about the suppression of the vote. There are always screw-ups at election time but it was not until Florida 2000 that these began to enter the folklore of conspiracy which is an American political religion. This year the paranoia got hot and heavy on both sides. Republicans were sure election fraud was going to rule the day and the Democrats would steal the election. Democrats were just as paranoid that racism would deny the first African American his opportunity to be president. Both were wrong.

I am glad that Obama won by a big enough margin to lay to rest any claim the election was stolen. I am glad he won by a big enough margin so that only cranks will continue to claim that the words racism and America can ever be reasonably linked. This is a historic moment in our country's history, and reaffirms our place as the most remarkable nation on this earth. Conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

I think it's important for all my fellow conservatives to take a moment in the next few days to reflect on these facts and not rush into the partisan struggles which are bound to crowd our political space in the years to come. Let us reflect on the fact that sharp as our divisions are, we are a nation that settles our differences at the ballot box and not in civil strife. Let us do the American thing and give this man the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to prove his mettle by assuming his role as the leader of our nation -- one and indivisible; let us see if he will live up to his promises to heal the country's wounds and unify its contending factions. We face a terrible economic test at home, and barbaric enemies abroad. There will be time enough to hold him to account if he does not honor his promises, and to celebrate with him if he does. In the meantime, let us celebrate this historic moment in America's progress, and do everything we can to show the generosity of spirit that has made America a land that we love.

Yes, the Messiah is in the house ...

What you don't know about Barack Obama

If I had the time, this WND article is how I would sum up all the reasons to NOT support this Farrakhan-loving, anti-American, Muslim, Marxist, racist, radical, terrorist-loving, dictator-admiring charlatan who wants to be the Commander in Chief of these United States of America. Oh, and did I mention this empty suit has accomplished ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in his pathetic career? The sad thing is, most Americans voting for Barack Hussein Obama today do not know a single detail of this man's past, thanks to a media that is an extension of the now Radical Left Democratic Party. I guess the party really is bought and paid for by George Soros.

This is absolutely BRILLIANT, but, I fear, too late to make an impact 11/4/8.

What you don't know about Barack Obama

I hope, in the future, I won't be having these words read back to me in some Civilian National Security Force interrogation room in the Age of Obama.

Why Obama Cannot be President in 95 seconds

'It's ludicrous to say that fake registrations can't become fraudulent votes,' she told me. MonCrief, a 29-year old University of Alabama graduate who wanted to become part of the civil rights movement, worked as a strategic consultant for ACORN as well as a development associate with Project Vote and sat in on meetings with the national staffs of both groups. She has given me documents that back up many of her statements, including one that indicates that the goal of ACORN's New Mexico affiliate was that only 40 percent of its submitted registrations had to be valid."

Our Tax System Explained in Beer

By: David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D. Professor of Economics University of Georgia

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten
comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it
would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the
arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve.

'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce
the cost of your daily beer by $20. 'Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the
first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.

But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they
divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted
that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would
each end up being paid to drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's
bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the
amounts each should pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings)..
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 ( 22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued
to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to
compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20,' declared the sixth man. He pointed
to the tenth man,' but he got $10!

''Yeah, that's right ,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar,
too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!!

''That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back
when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get
anything at all. The system exploits the poor!!!

'The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the
tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers
without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered
something important.

They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the
bill!!!!!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our
tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most
benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being
wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might
start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

David R. Kamerschen, Ph..D. Professor of Economics University of Georgia

For those who understand, no explanation is needed.
For those who do not understand, like many politicians, no explanation
is possible.

Obama is bad news!

Specifically, he has longstanding, if indirect ties to two institutions, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), listed by the U.S. government in 2007 as an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas-funding trial; and the Nation of Islam (NoI), condemned by the Anti-Defamation League for its 'consistent record of racism and anti-Semitism.'"

Hot Air Anti-Obama Summary

Obama and the "New" Party

Something New Here by Stanley Kurtz on National Review Online: "During his first campaign for the Illinois state senate in 1995-96, Barack Obama was a member of, and was endorsed by, the far-left New Party. Obama’s New Party ties give the lie to his claim to be a post-partisan, post-ideological pragmatist. Particularly in Chicago, the New Party functioned as the electoral arm of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). So despite repeated attempts to distance himself from ACORN, Obama’s New Party ties raise disturbing questions about his links to those proudly militant leftists. The media’s near-total silence on this critical element of Obama’s past is deeply irresponsible."

Obama funded foreign thug who promised Islamic state

Obama funded foreign thug who promised Islamic state: "Odinga took over the office of prime minister in Kenya after his campaign called for protests of an election he lost by more than 200,000 votes to incumbent Mwai Kibaki. The resulting violence by marauding Muslim mobs left 1,000 people dead, hundreds of thousands displaced from their homes and 800 Christian churches damaged or destroyed. No Islamic mosques were damaged, however."

I am not indicting individual Muslims. I am not even saying that Obama is a Muslim. But the very fact that he supported this Marxist Muslim THUG in Kenya is cause for concern. (FYI: 800 damaged or destroyed Christian Churches, 0 damaged Mosques.) I wouldn't even care if he was Muslim, if I was comfortable with his pro-American loyalties. I'm just not feeling it.

Obviously, he has been less than forthcoming of his Muslim background. Daniel Pipes raises some very good concerns about his Muslim upbringing, that I think deserve a closer look by Americans in the final 14 days before we coronate him.
"Obama's having been born and raised a Muslim and having left the faith to become a Christian make him neither more nor less qualified to become president of the United States. But if he was born and raised a Muslim and is now hiding that fact, this points to a major deceit, a fundamental misrepresentation about himself that has profound implications about his character and his suitability as president."

Joe the Plumber might think he himself can spread it around just fine, but everyone knows "trickle-down economics" don't work. So President-presumptive Obama kindly explained the new exquisitely condescending "talking-down economics." Put that in your pipe and solder it.

"We need you down here checking out this Joe the Plumber," editors barked to journalists.

"But I'm this close to wrapping up the Wasilla Town Library banned-book investigation!"

"Forget it! The Atlantic Monthly is claiming Joe the Plumber is Trig's real father. We can't get behind on this. Get to Minneapolis Airport. Joe the Plumber was seen in the bathroom with Sen. Larry Craig."

Alas, as a result of this massive investment of journalistic resources, no investigative reporter will be free to investigate ACORN voter-registration fraud or Obama's ties to terrorist educator William Ayers until, oh, midway through his second term at least.

SOMEBODY needs to stick up for Bush the Younger

The Wrong Target: "Both candidates should realize that, in spite of today's low presidential approval surveys (and remembering that Congress's are far worse), history will judge this president very well — better than whichever one of the candidates that succeeds him, we'll bet."

Riding High Before Dems Grabbed Congress in 2006

I got an email today from a friend.

Funny, I never thought about this, but the "change" since the 2006 Mid-terms HAS been dramatic, to say the least. An Obama victory will sure give us more of this "change." Maybe we should "change" Congress back to Republican control. McCain touched on this slightly in the third presidential debate.

MCCAIN: I want to leave money in your pocket. I want you to be able to choose the health care for you and your family. That's what I'm all about. And we've got too much government and too much spending and the government is -- the size of government has grown by 40 percent in the last eight years.

We can't afford that in the next eight years and Senator Obama, with the Democrats in charge of Congress, things have gotten worse. Have you noticed, they've been in charge the last two years.

I am not agreeing that all current ills can be traced back to the 2006 mid-terms, but if Barack Hussein Obama can sit there and blame Bush and Republicans on eight years of a failed philosophy (most of which were somewhat prosperous) than certainly Republicans (and McCain) can propagandize about the "failed policies" and inaction of the Democrat-lead Congress past two years. And folks forget that Bush inherited the dot-com bust and Clinton Recession, as well as a massive terrorist attack that furthered the economic pain and panic. With the cards he was dealt, George W. Bush acted bravely and aggressively to fend off these two great challenges early on in his first term. I only wish that he pursued some of his other attempts at reform more agggressively. (i.e, FannieMae/FreddieMac, Social Security, Energy, etc...)

Here is the the email:
Plain simple truth

TO ALL MY FRIENDS.....LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE...FYI only.

George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years.
The first six years the economy was fine.
A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high.
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon.
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high--14,000 +
5) American's were buying new cars, taking cruises, vacations overseas, living large!...

But American's wanted 'CHANGE'! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress and yes--we got 'CHANGE' all right. In the PAST YEAR:
1) Consumer confidence has plummeted.
2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing! [$3.00 now]
3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 10% increase)
4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS

and prices still dropping
5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low ~~
$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS!

YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE...AND WE SURE GOT IT! ....

REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS.
AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

NOW THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT CLAIMS HE IS GOING TO REALLY GIVE US CHANGE ALONG WITH A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS!!!!

JUST HOW MUCH MORE 'CHANGE' DO YOU THINK YOU CAN STAND?

Mithal Alousi: [Iraq] is indeed occupied. It is occupied by Iran.

http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/1875.htm

Following are excerpts from an interview with Iraqi MP Mithal Alousi, which aired on Al-Jazeera TV on September 19, 2008.

Mithal Alousi: [Iraq] is indeed occupied. It is occupied by Iran. The official Iraqi state, the parliament elected by 12 million people, and the Iraqi government, with all the good and bad... We signed [an agreement] with the U.N. Security Council, which includes Qatar, Syria, Egypt, Russia, and Japan. All these countries are U.N. members. We requested the Security Council to extend the duration of the international forces. What occupation are you talking about...

Host: I am talking about occupation by means of the American bases in Iraq, by means of tens of thousands of American and non-American soldiers in Iraq. These are the manifestations of the occupation in Iraq.

Mithal Alousi: My dear, these manifestations exist in the country from which you broadcast a sovereign country that we respect as well as in other countries. I want there to be military bases in Iraq, but on condition that there are agreements which guarantee the rebuilding of the Iraqi army, and guarantee the strategic military balance, so that I can prevent a war and an Iranian takeover of Iraq.<.p>

[...]
My friend, the largest American military base in the world is in Qatar. Does this constitute occupation? I congratulate the tiny, budding and creative state of Qatar for gaining a political role in the region. This is a good thing. This is what I want for Iraq too.

Obama Voted 'Present' on Mortgage Reform
The only banking 'deregulation' in recent years was that of Fan and Fred.

By PETER J. WALLISON

In each of the first two presidential debates, Barack Obama claimed that "Republican deregulation" is responsible for the financial crisis. Most viewers probably accepted this idea, especially because Republicans generally do favor deregulation.

But one essential fact was missing from the senator's narrative: While there has been significant deregulation in the U.S. economy during the last 30 years, none of it has occurred in the financial sector. Indeed, the only significant legislation with any effect on financial risk-taking was the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Improvement Act of 1991, adopted during the first Bush administration in the wake of the collapse of the savings and loans (S&Ls). FDICIA, however, substantially tightened commercial bank and S&L regulations, including prompt corrective action when a bank's capital declines below adequate levels and severe personal fines if management violates laws or regulations.

If Sen. Obama had been asked for an example of "Republican deregulation," he would probably have cited the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 (GLBA), which has become a popular target for Democrats searching for something to pin on the GOP. This is puzzling. The bill's key sponsors were indeed Republicans, but the bill was supported by the Clinton administration and signed by President Clinton. The GLBA's "repeal" of a portion of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 is said to have somehow contributed to the current financial meltdown. Nonsense.

Adopted early in the New Deal, the Glass-Steagall Act separated investment and commercial banking. It prohibited commercial banks from underwriting or dealing in securities, and from affiliating with firms that engaged principally in that business. The GLBA repealed only the second of these provisions, allowing banks and securities firms to be affiliated under the same holding company. Thus J.P. Morgan Chase was able to acquire Bear Stearns, and Bank of America could acquire Merrill Lynch. Nevertheless, banks themselves were and still are prohibited from underwriting or dealing in securities.

Allowing banks and securities firms to affiliate under the same holding company has had no effect on the current financial crisis. None of the investment banks that have gotten into trouble -- Bear, Lehman, Merrill, Goldman or Morgan Stanley -- were affiliated with commercial banks. And none of the banks that have major securities affiliates -- Citibank, Bank of America, and J.P. Morgan Chase, to name a few -- are among the banks that have thus far encountered serious financial problems. Indeed, the ability of these banks to diversify into nonbanking activities has been a source of their strength.

Most important, the banks that have succumbed to financial problems -- Wachovia, Washington Mutual and IndyMac, among others -- got into trouble by investing in bad mortgages or mortgage-backed securities, not because of the securities activities of an affiliated securities firm. Federal Reserve regulations significantly restrict transactions between banks and their affiliates.
If Sen. Obama were truly looking for a kind of deregulation that might be responsible for the current financial crisis, he need only look back to 1998, when the Clinton administration ruled that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could satisfy their affordable housing obligations by purchasing subprime mortgages. This ultimately made it possible for Fannie and Freddie to add a trillion dollars in junk loans to their balance sheets. This led to their own collapse, and to the development of a market in these mortgages that is the source of the financial crisis we are wrestling with today.

Finally, on the matter of deregulation and the financial crisis, Sen. Obama should consider his own complicity in the failure of Congress to adopt legislation that might have prevented the subprime meltdown.

In the summer of 2005, a bill emerged from the Senate Banking Committee that considerably tightened regulations on Fannie and Freddie, including controls over their capital and their ability to hold portfolios of mortgages or mortgage-backed securities. All the Republicans voted for the bill in committee; all the Democrats voted against it. To get the bill to a vote in the Senate, a few Democratic votes were necessary to limit debate. This was a time for the leadership Sen. Obama says he can offer, but neither he nor any other Democrat stepped forward.

Instead, by his own account, Mr. Obama wrote a letter to the Treasury Secretary, allegedly putting himself on record that subprime loans were dangerous and had to be dealt with. This is revealing; if true, it indicates Sen. Obama knew there was a problem with subprime lending -- but was unwilling to confront his own party by pressing for legislation to control it. As a demonstration of character and leadership capacity, it bears a strong resemblance to something else in Sen. Obama's past: voting present.

Obama and Acorn: "All this money gives Acorn the ability to pursue its other great hobby: electing liberals. How Obama's Alliances Connect to the Debate on the Economy

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: So the Democrats preach for 18 months that the economy is in a depression. They actually try to destroy the economy with their left-wing policies. Don't forget this. You know, people are out there saying, "Rush, it's very important to tell people about Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright, but it's the economy. The economy is all people care about right now." These two things are linked, ladies and gentlemen. You cannot separate Obama's alliances with socialist leftists and say it has nothing to do with the economy. Critics are wrong that Ayers has nothing to do with the economy.

Stanley Kurtz made the point on Fox this morning that Ayers and Obama, that alliance included the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. They funneled more than $100 million to community organizers, including ACORN, which is very much at the core of this financial mess, pressuring banks to loan to noncreditworthy borrowers. The story is the hundred million dollars to the Annenberg Challenge was designed to change the focus of education, but it just didn't work out. Anyway, Obama was given 100 to $150 million with Bill Ayers to have dramatic changes, and they're playing it down. I'll tell you what, it's been hilarious to see all these leftists today warning that McCain-Palin attacks are going to hurt McCain. I have stories all over the place here, "You know, these attacks that McCain's getting into now on Obama and Palin and her attacks, why, this is just going to hurt 'em."

Really? If it was going to hurt 'em you'd be encouraging them, Drive-Bys, to continue these attacks. Here is the thing. Here's what's going on. This again is why Ayers and Jeremiah Wright and all these people are important. The Drive-By Media has done everything it can to keep Obama in a cocoon. They've got his wife taped up in a closet somewhere with tape over her mouth. Biden is off the campaign trail with a sick mother-in-law. They're taking all the people that are gaffe prone or that hate the country and make it obvious they're just angry and filled with rage, and they're silenced. We can't find Obama. It's typical of what liberal guys do it their wives. They shut 'em up when they get too noisy, when they get too vocal. Just hide them away someplace and present a picture, "Aw, she with the kids." Oh, yeah? She's with the kids who are seven and ten who go to school with Ayers' kids who are 29 and 30? Right. They have a little birthday party sometime this afternoon, right? So this is incredibly important, and more and more people are tuning in and paying attention to these questions, as you get closer and closer to the election. Here's Sarah Palin. We have her today. She was in Jacksonville, and yesterday morning in Clearwater, Florida. Here's her great line on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, bouncing off Obama and his claim, he didn't know Ayers was a terrorist.

PALIN: Since he got called out on his plans to meet unconditionally with terror state leaders like Ahmadinejad, will he now claim that he was unaware of his radical background?

AUDIENCE: No! (cheering and applause)

RUSH: I wonder, folks, what the polls would show if Palin were a distinct answer option to the question, "Who are you voting for?" How many of you in this audience are going to vote for McCain simply because you can vote for Sarah Palin? How many of you are actually voting for Palin? How many of you have decided you are not going to sit this out, but you're now energized and you are going to vote, because you're either voting against Obama or you're voting for Sarah Palin? I'll bet if they asked that question, people would be stunned at the answer. And I'll be honest, I myself, ladies and gentlemen, for the sake of effectiveness have pondered the notion of portraying, presenting this election as Palin versus Obama, because the contrast is distinct. She is on fire. Here she hammers Obama on Ayers yesterday in Clearwater, Florida.

PALIN: One of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers. And according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist, and part of a group that, quote, "launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our US capitol," and then there's even more to the story. Barack Obama says that Ayers was just someone in the neighborhood, but that's less than truthful. His own top advisors said that they were quote "certainly friendly." In fact Obama held one of his first meetings of his political career in Bill Ayers' living room, and they worked together on various projects in Chicago.

RUSH: And she continued.

PALIN: These are the same guys who think that patriotism is paying higher taxes.

AUDIENCE: No!

PALIN: Remember, that's what Joe Biden had said. And I am just so fearful that this is not a man who sees America the way that you and I see America: as the greatest source for good in this world! I'm afraid this is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to work with a former domestic terrorist who had targeted his own country.

RUSH: Amen! Bullseye! That's why this is important. Obama's alliances -- not associations -- are with people who do not like this country. They are the ones who have mentored him. And if you think that that's not relevant to the economy, take a look at what people think the US economy should be, people like Ayers and Jeremiah Wright. It should be one of central planning, the government doling out everything to everybody according to its own definition, usually based on "fairness." You know that fairness is one of the liberal foundation building blocks, the reason they say they're doing everything. The subprime mortgage crisis was all brought about by the concept of fairness, the Democrats thinking, "It's not fair that poor people who can't afford homes don't have them."

And so they set about long ago to rectify the situation, to put people who have no business owning a home because they can't pay for one nevertheless being given mortgages that are today worthless, and then those same people in the interests of fairness forcing lending institutions to invest in these subprime loans -- and the lending institutions knew they were worthless, and so they had to start packaging them and selling them around to each other as assets. So All these financial institutions -- to keep the government off their back and trying to turn these worthless assets into something -- were packaging them and selling them, hoping that somewhere down the road that the housing bubble would continue, the prices would continue to rise and at some point these mortgages would be worth something somehow; if not mortgages, as securities.

None of it happened because the price of housing plummeted. Well, it wasn't gonna work because it was all a fraud to begin with, it was impossible. It was not possible for this to work. Obama's fingerprints are all over this. He was working with ACORN and the people who pressured Congress -- well, they pressured the Democrats in Congress -- and pressured the lending institutions to make this happen. And Barney Frank knows what's up, and Barney Frank's out there now saying that the attacks on all this are just racism. Republican racists are now making these attacks. Barney Frank and the leftists believe it's totally appropriate for people who can't afford homes to live in them as long as they're paid for by you and me. It's not fair that you and I have homes and they don't, and so they're going to see that people have homes.

It's impossible to overestimate the importance of the liberal concept of "fairness" in being a motivation for what they do. And, of course, who's opposed to fairness? It's sort of like the environmentalist wackos claim all they're doing is trying to get clean water and clean air and save the planet. Well, who wants dirty water? Who wants dirty air? Who wants a destroyed planet? Nobody does! By the same token, they're out there saying, "It's only fair that the rich pay more taxes. It's only fair that CEOs only be able to make so much. It's only fair that some people get thrown in jail for..." Of course, who's opposed to fairness? So this is just one of the many tricks that is being used. But what you have to remember is that their definition of fairness is not yours. Their definition of fairness is most of the country getting screwed in order for liberals to continue to make more and more Americans dependent on government for their daily existence.

Be right back and continue.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: As I say, the Democrats preached for 18 months the economy is in a depression; they actually tried to destroy the economy with their left-wing policies; they have tried to destroy the economy in your mind. They have been working to create a psychological recession, slash, depression, for years. They succeed in driving the economy into a precipitous gulch, and now they blame it on the Republicans. They tried to lose the war for years hoping to use that as a political issue, but we're winning, so they dropped that immediately. This is why all of this is terribly and crucially important, ladies and gentlemen. We have an entire political party and left-wing ideological apparatus that's already trying to destroy the country, even before they get into power! Imagine what they will do if they succeed. For six years they have tried to make you think your country is not what it should be or can be and its greatest days are behind us and because of that we need significant change, not to revive the greatness of America from what they say is the past, we need to rebuild it, we need to change it, because it can't be what it was.

They're already in the process of trying to destroy as much of this country as they can, great institutions like our economy and the military. And of course, when you attack the president the way they have attacked the president all of these years, it has the effect of eroding confidence in all authority, everywhere down the line, and they haven't cared about that. That's been part of their grand design as well. They want you having as little faith in your own country as they profess to have. They are in the process of destroying the country even before they get their hands on it. Now, Obama, he says that he didn't know his pastor of 20 years was a racist, an anti-Semitic Marxist. He didn't know that Bill Ayers was a domestic terrorist. And yet, Obama wrote a review of a book by Bill Ayers in 1997. Barack Obama, state senator, "A Kind and Just Parent: The Children of Juvenile Court, by William Ayers. A searing and timely account of the juvenile court system and the courageous individuals who rescue hope from despair." Chicago Tribune, December 21st, 1997. Obama reviewed a book by Ayers.

As recently as 2007, Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn are easily seen on videotape trashing capitalism, trashing the American way of life. As recently as last year, and Obama doesn't know this? He didn't know that Ayers was a domestic terrorist while he's writing books or reviews of Ayers books. He didn't know that Tony Rezko was a crook. Poor Barack Obama, why, he just didn't know, as, of course, he doesn't know that his campaign has taken in an estimated $34 million from foreign donors, including from the Middle East. He doesn't know that ACORN is registering homeless people and others to vote. He just doesn't know. Poor guy. Look at all the people keeping the truth from him. But Obama does know that if only the US military had adopted his strategy for Iraq, there would have been peace long ago. If only the US military had adopted his military strategy, the Taliban would already have been defeated in Afghanistan. If only the president had adopted his massive tax increases, his massive spending increases, massive nationalization of health care, massive redistribution of wealth plans, why, if the president had only listened to what Obama claims he does know, the economy, why, we'd be chugging along here without a hitch.

You see, folks, there is a pattern here with Obama. Those things for which he has had no responsibility and no experience and no record, he's got all the answers on those. Those things for which he actually has a record, actually has hands-on responsibility, like his past alliances and his donors, why, he can't be expected to know all those things. He's too busy knowing what to do in Iraq and Afghanistan with the economy and all that. He's too busy warning people, yeah, he's been warning for the last two years about subprime, he's been warning us about how to do things right, but the things that he touches, he doesn't know anything about. Says he wants transparency in government, but he won't release his school records, his medical records, his legislative records, and his records with Ayers. All this matters.

Big, Carb-Heavy Breakfast Key to Weight

Eating a big breakfast, heavy in carbs, is the key to keeping slim, according to new research.

A new study found that women who eat half of their daily calories first thing in the morning lose more weight in the long term than those who start the day with a small breakfast.

And they are also less likely to pile the pounds back on.

Dr. Daniela Jakubowicz, from the Hospital de Clinicas in Caracas, Venezuela, who led the study, said: "A very low carbohydrate diet exacerbates the craving for carbohydrates and slows metabolism. After a short period of weight loss, there is a quick return to obesity."

It is thought that eating a meal packed with protein and carbohydrates helps cut cravings for sweet or starchy foods, and boosts the metabolism.

Scientists compared the "big breakfast" diet with a strict low-carb weight-loss regime.

Jakubowicz and a team at Virginia Commonwealth University studied 94 obese, inactive women and found that low-carb dieters initially lost more weight.

The strict low-carb diet caused an average weight loss of 28 pounds; the big-breakfast version cut 23 pounds.

However, after eight months, the strict dieters had regained 18 pounds. The big-breakfast eaters continued to drop weight, losing another 16.5 pounds.

Those on the big breakfast diet lost more than 21 percent of their body weight, compared with just 4.5 percent for the low-carb group.

Women who ate a big breakfast reported feeling less hungry, especially before lunch and had fewer cravings for carbs than the other women did. The big breakfast dieters ate an average of 1,240 calories per day, 610 of which were consumed at breakfast. The low-carb dieters ate just 1,085 calories per day.

The findings will be presented this week at ENDO 08, the 90th annual meeting of The Endocrine Society in San Francisco.

What the Fed budget needs . . .

The new old me

What Just Happened?

Finally!!! I was wondering when (with baited breath) Republicans might actually go on the offensive about the current economic crisis. Hopefully, it is not too late, seeing that most Americans place the blame of the current crisis at the feet of rampant Wall Street greed that was bolstered by the the "right-wing," "deregulatory," "laissez faire" policies of the Bush years. Hmmm. I wonder where they got that impression? Could it be the unabashed, unapologetic, relentless offensive of Democrats, and their main-stream-media choir echoing and reinforcing the Soros/Obama/Leftist talking points? Could it be the silence of Republicans, and the magnanimous call for "bipartisanship" of McCain (who also attacks Wall Street, by the way)? No wonder Obama has benefited immensely from the current fiscal crisis, and I'm not talking about being the number one beneficiary of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac dollars in the past four years--I'm talking nearly a five-point bounce in almost every poll. Once again, Democrats create another social engineering disaster, and Republicans are left, albeit in questionable manner, with cleaning up the mess. This ad's content, and I hope more like it, needs to be the number one concept hammered into the public consciousness from here on until Election Day. As James Carville said in 1992 ... "It's the economy, stupid." Only then, does McCain/Palin have a chance. Perhaps this will also help stem the predicted veto-proof gains of Democrats in both House and the Senate.

Footnotes:
Additional concepts for voters to easily digest:
1) Obama's radical background (Ayers, Wright, Rezko, et. al.)
2)Obama's radical Marxist Leftist elitist fairy-tail un-American agenda.
3) Republicans plan to strengthen America through Growth in the Domestic Energy Industry (Oil, Gas, Nuclear, Solar, Wind, etc.)
4) A strong National Security plan (in conjunction with friendly democracies and allies) that keeps wayward rogue nations and Islamic Fundamentalist would-be terrorists on the defensive, or more preferably, dead. Read: no appeasement.

Annexing Mexico, Erik Rush: "The border between the United States and Mexico isn't just a boundary between nations; it's a chasm that separates a wealthy global superpower from a poverty-stricken Third World Country. To millions of Mexicans desperate for a better life, it's a finish line-to cross it undetected means to seek prosperity in America. In 1844 the United States annexed Texas and over the next few years took most of the current Southwest United States. Today, the Mexican people south-of-the-border see the benefits of life in the good-old U.S. of A. and according to polls, they're willing to finish things up and give us the rest. Columnist Erik Rush proposes that we take them up on the offer. Erik Rush say, '40% of Mexicans claim that they would move here if they could. Let's save them the effort and bring the U.S. to them.'"

My Way News - Voting for president begins in pivotal Ohio

My Way News - Voting for president begins in pivotal Ohio: "In the state that may again determine the presidency, voters started casting ballots Tuesday as Barack Obama struggles to thwart a John McCain victory in Ohio four years after it tipped the election to President Bush."

This is an absolute outrage. There is a reason that elections are supposed to be on a certain day, and nobody should be casting votes until each candidate has a thorough vetting in adss, press, etc. What if more revelations come out about a candidate the weeks or days, prior to the Election Day? What if the public hasn't fully digested the political ads that have yet-to-be aired? Not only that, but I see the system open to massive fraud. In the not-so-old days, a fraudster might have a difficult time making the rounds to multiple polling stations on one particular day, but if they had 36 days to do it, think how much easier it is to vote on behalf of dead people, especially without the Photo ID requirement? What a fraud, Ohio

Commentary: Bankruptcy, not bailout, is the right answer - CNN.com: "This bailout was a terrible idea. Here's why.

The current mess would never have occurred in the absence of ill-conceived federal policies. The federal government chartered Fannie Mae in 1938 and Freddie Mac in 1970; these two mortgage lending institutions are at the center of the crisis. The government implicitly promised these institutions that it would make good on their debts, so Fannie and Freddie took on huge amounts of excessive risk.

Worse, beginning in 1977 and even more in the 1990s and the early part of this century, Congress pushed mortgage lenders and Fannie/Freddie to expand subprime lending. The industry was happy to oblige, given the implicit promise of federal backing, and subprime lending soared."

American Thinker Blog: You Tube pulls a popular anti-Democrat video off the web (updated): "You Tube and Warner Music Group today pulled a highly popular video that very succinctly and clearly spelled out the roots of the current economic crisis.

The 9:59 video entitled 'Burning Down the House: What Caused Our Economic Crisis' played four different songs under a fast moving video sequence that very clearly tied Democrats like Chris Dodd, Franklin Raines, Jim Johnson and Barack Obama to policies and corruption related to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It cleverly showed how the 'affordable mortgage' programs sent an economic virus through the entire economy and showed Republican efforts to intervene and regulate being blocked.

For Obama and all congressional Democrats, it was a devastating video."

Can Congress Fix A Problem It Caused?

IBDeditorials.com: Editorials, Political Cartoons, and Polls from Investor's Business Daily -- Can Congress Fix A Problem It Caused?: "Nothing could more painfully demonstrate what is wrong with Congress than the current financial crisis.

Among the congressional 'leaders' invited to the White House to devise a bailout 'solution' are the very people who have for years created the risks that have come home to roost.

Five years ago, Barney Frank vouched for the 'soundness' of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and said 'I do not see' any 'possibility of serious financial losses to the Treasury.'

Moreover, he said the federal government has 'probably done too little rather than too much to push them to meet the goals of affordable housing.'"
