Proliferation of Climate Scepticism in Europe

Shattering Conventional Wisdom About Saddam's WMD's

John Loftus: "We live in an age of documents. There are no more secrets, only deferred disclosures. Saddam Hussein's secret documents are measured by the shelf-mile and stored inside a secure but dusty facility near U.S. Central Command Headquarters in Doha, Qatar, and in several subsidiary sites. Armed guards protect the unread dossiers. Three shifts of two hundred translators each work around the clock. Perhaps 5% of these captured documents have been studied so far, but their contents are about to shatter much of the conventional wisdom concerning Saddam's weapons of mass destruction."

Neoconservatism's Future

Have America's troubles in Iraq sounded the death knell of neoconservatism, the political ideology that is said to be behind our presence there?

New JFK Assination Book: Programmed to Kill

This does not appear to be "just another" JFK assassination conspiracy theory. Although I'm sure it won't get much attention, because the villains weren't American: i.e., the CIA, the FBI, the Mafia, LBJ, etc ...

Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Lt. Gen. Ion Mihai Pacepa, the highest ranking intelligence official ever to have defected from the Soviet bloc. In 1989, Romania's president Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife were executed at the end of a trial where most of the accusations had come word-for-word out of Pacepa's book, Red Horizons, republished in 27 countries. Pacepa's newest book is Programmed to Kill: Lee Harvey Oswald, the Soviet KGB, and the Kennedy Assassination.

They care so much about the "Palestinians" ...

From FrontPageMag.com ...

Posted at 11:08 PM on 9/29/2007 by David Horowitz

Arafat's Jihad: the Palestinians have never been interested in a state. They are part of the Islamo-fascist jihad against the West.

Arafat's Johannesburg Speech.

Below are excerpts from a speech given by PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat on May 10, 1994, in a mosque in Johannesburg, South Africa. The text was transcribed directly from a tape recording of Arafat's address. Arafat's English is far from perfect, and his grammar is often choppy. Editorial comments and clarifications are in square brackets.
________________________________________

Arafat: Jihad to Liberate Jerusalem The Jihad [Islamic holy war] will continue, and Jerusalem is not [only] for the Palestinian people, it is for all the Muslim nation. You are responsible for Palestine and for Jerusalem before me [applause], the land which had been blessed for the whole world. Now after this agreement you have to understand our main battle. Our main battle is Jerusalem. Jerusalem. The first shrine of the Moslems. This has to be understood for everybody and for this I was insisting before signing to have a letter from them, the Israelis, that Jerusalem is one of the items which has to be under discussion and not the state, the permanent State of Israel! No! It is the permanent State of Palestine [applause]. Yes, it is the permanent State of Palestine. And in this letter it is very important for everybody to know I insist to mention and they have written it, and I have this letter, I didn't declare and publish it until now. In this letter we are responsible for all the Christian and the Moslem and Islamic holy sacred places. I have to speak frankly, I can't do it alone without the support of the Islamic nation. I can't do it alone. No, you have to come and to fight and to start the Jihad to liberate Jerusalem, your first shrine. In the agreement I insist with my colleagues, with my brothers, to mention that not exceeding the beginning of the third year, and after -- directly after -- the signing of their agreement, to start discussing the future of Jerusalem. The future of Jerusalem. What they are saying is that [Jerusalem] is their capital. No, it is not their capital. It is our capital. It is the first shrine of the Islam and the Moslems. This agreement, I am not considering it more than the agreement which had been signed between our prophet Mohammed and Koraish, and you remember the Caliph Omar had refused this agreement and [considered] it a despicable truce. [Ed. note: The agreement with Koraish allowed Mohammed to pray in Mecca, which was under Koraish control, for ten years. When Mohammed grew stronger two years later, he abrogated the agreement, slaughtered the tribe of Koraish and conquered Mecca.] But Mohammed had accepted it and we are accepting now this peace offer. But to continue our way to Jerusalem, to the first shrine together and not alone. We are in need of you as Moslems, as warriors of Jihad [in Arabic, Mujaheddin].

I think Ian was here to witness this presidential address ...

Bush Address to Troops : "Heroic Labor At the site of success."

Thank you all. General, thank you very much. It’s an honor to be with you.

As you know, today is Labor Day back home — (hooah) — so I thought I’d come by to thank you for all your hard work. (Hooah.) Every day — every day — you show bravery under incredibly difficult circumstances. Every day you’re doing work on the sands of Anbar that is making it safer in the streets of America. And every day the United States of America is grateful for what you’re doing. I want you to tell your families the Commander-in-Chief stopped by to say hello, and he said, I’m incredibly proud to be the Commander-in-Chief of such a great group of men and women. (Applause.)

I’m keeping pretty good company, as you can see. I brought out the A Team so they could be with the folks who are making a significant difference in this war against these radicals and extremists. In Anbar you’re seeing firsthand the dramatic differences that can come when the Iraqis are more secure. In other words, you’re seeing success.

You see Sunnis who once fought side by side with al Qaeda against coalition troops now fighting side by side with coalition troops against al Qaeda. Anbar is a huge province. It was once written off as lost. It is now one of the safest places in Iraq. (Hooah.) Because of your hard work, because of your bravery and sacrifice, you are denying al Qaeda a safe haven from which to plot and plan and carry out attacks against the United States of America. What you’re doing here is making this country safer, and I thank you for your hard work. (Hooah.)

The surge of operations that began in June is improving security throughout Iraq. The military successes are paving the way for the political reconciliation and economic progress the Iraqis need to transform their country. When Iraqis feel safe in their own homes and neighborhoods, they can focus their efforts on building a stable, civil society with functioning government structures at the local and provincial and national levels. And that’s important, because a free Iraq, an Iraq that’s an ally against these extremists and murderers will be a major defeat for the terrorists.

Earlier today I met with some of the tribal sheiks here in Anbar. It was a really interesting meeting. And at the table were the leaders of the central government, as well. They told me that the kind of bottom-up progress that your efforts are bringing to Anbar is vital to the success and stability of a free Iraq. See, Iraqis need this stability to build a more peaceful future. And America needs this stability to prevent the chaos that allows the terrorists to set up bases from which they can plot and plan attacks on our homeland.

The very people that you helped the Iraqis defeat in Anbar swore allegiance to the man that ordered the attack on the United States of America. What happens here in Anbar matters to the security of the United States.

And so I thank you for your sacrifice. I thank you for volunteering in the face of danger. I thank you for your courage and your bravery. Every day you are successful here in Iraq draws nearer to the day when America can begin calling you and your fellow servicemen and women home.

But I want to tell you this about the decision — about my decision about troop levels. Those decisions will be based on a calm assessment by our military commanders on the conditions on the ground — not a nervous reaction by Washington politicians to poll results in the media. (Hooah.) In other words, when we begin to draw down troops from Iraq, it will be from a position of strength and success, not from a position of fear and failure. To do otherwise would embolden our enemies and make it more likely that they would attack us at home. If we let our enemies back us out of Iraq, we will more likely face them in America. If we don’t want to hear their footsteps back home, we have to keep them on their heels over here. And that’s exactly what you’re doing, and America is safer for it.

In Anbar you’re doing this hard work every day. We’ve all come to say thank you. We’ve come to tell you the American people are standing with you. They’re grateful for your sacrifice. As Commander-in-Chief, I’m proud to be in your presence on this Labor Day. I ask for God’s blessings on you and your family, and may God continue to bless America. Thank you. (Applause.)

Betting Against Al Gore: JunkScience.com ups ante to $100,000

(Chicago, Illinois - August 14, 2007) The latest challenge to the heavily promoted idea that global warming is man-made and likely to be harmful is a $100,000 reward offered by JunkScience.com to the first person who can scientifically prove Al Gore's theory that human beings are causing harmful global warming.

Gore continues to aggressively pursue his claim that harmful global warming is caused by man-made carbon dioxide emissions. Repeating the formula of fear used in his movie, An Inconvenient Truth, Gore continues his climate change crusade with a dramatic PowerPoint presentation, book tour, and concerts. His book signings double as campaign rallies and volunteers energize the crowd and collect petition signatures for Gore's possible run for president.

At the center of the debate challenge is the question of whether man-made carbon dioxide causes global warming. This theory has become increasingly difficult to defend as:
evidence of natural climate variability due to solar cycles is more widely embraced in the scientific community; the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently announced global temperatures in the 21st century were not warmer than those before World War II; and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently released the comments of scientists whose reviews of the fourth assessment report were critical of global warming theory ... and largely disregarded by the report's lead authors.

Junkscience.com is offering a $100,000 reward to anyone able to prove two of the key hypotheses that need to be true if fear of global warming is justified. Details can be found at http://ultimateglobalwarmingchallenge.com/.

The list of Gore debate challengers continues to grow as scientists, economists, and researchers dissect his extreme rhetoric and unjustified conclusions. Junkscience.com joins best-selling author Dennis Avery (Unstoppable Global Warming), Lord Christopher Monckton (a science advisor to Margaret Thatcher), Bjorn Lomborg (Danish economist), author Michael Crichton, Dr. S. Fred Singer (Unstoppable Global Warming, former director of the U.S. National Weather Service), Dr. Tim Ball (historical climatologist), Prof. Ian Clark (University of Ottawa), and Prof. Richard Lindzen (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), among others.

Gore has refused all debate challengers to date. Joseph Bast, president of The Heartland Institute, notes, "Maybe it's because climate alarmists tend to lose when they debate climate realists. Or because most scientists do not support climate alarmism." The Heartland Institute has run ads worth more than $500,000 in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Washington Times promoting a debate.

Can someone tell the Defeat-ocrats what a fine job our military is doing for our country, and the world?

Al-Qaeda faces rebellion from the ranks - Times Online

I am feeling optimistic today. Let us meditate on this:

We are turning the corner in Iraq. We are learning from our mistakes. Miscalculations are part of any military conflict. We will identify the true enemies and thugs of free men, free markets and a peaceful world. Our mission is necessary, true, and noble. Our men and women aiding the mission are incredible, amazing heroes.

Our enemies will fail of their own pernicious, cancerous ideology. Their plans, conceived in and by evil, can only end in ultimate failure.

Terrorists, in all their manifestations, in all corners of the world, will be defeated. The money that allows them to flourish will dry up, when the states that sponsor them collapse. The evil states will topple, either of their own ineptitude and foolish plans. or we, the leaders of the Free World, will help facilitate their demise. RIGHT is on our side.
Success and Victory will obliterate their misguided and fatalistic world-view.

Patience. Persistence. Commitment. Compassion. Belief.

We will WIN.

Freedom and Prosperity and Peace will reign in the Middle East, and spread throughout the world.

Defeat-o-crats will fail in their attempts to force us to lose and pull out of this troubled area of the world, that NEEDS our help, our beacon of LIGHT.

Unpleasant Reminders from Pakistan ...

Ceding the Fall of Pakistan:

"The Center for Security Policy's Salim Mansur raised the uncomfortable issue of a potential nuclear alliance between Iran and Pakistan. Few in the public governmental forum care to delve into the possible scenario of a fallen Pakistan suddenly a nuclear and military ally of the Islamic Republic of Iran. But such a scenario is very real, and one which few care to delve into for long. It’s not a pleasant exercise.

· Pakistan has nuclear weapons.
· It is also the current home to al-Qaeda and the Taliban, the epicenter of the global jihadiyun movement.
· The Taliban has recently taken to seeking its enemies by reportedly deploying suicide bomber teams to distant shores, including Germany, Canada, the United States and Great Britain.
· Al-Qaeda is considered to have surpassed its pre-9/11 capabilities since migrating to its sanctuaries in Pakistan in 2001-2002.
· The Taliban-al-Qaeda alliance fields an armed fighter force of over 200,000 men on Pakistani soil.
· The alliance has been steadily gaining territory ceded to them by Pervez Musharraf, as he has been incapable of defeating or even stemming the rising tide of Islamists inching ever closer to Islamabad.
· As Mansur states bluntly, Musharraf “has run the country for over seven years and his welcome has run out” among the general population, not just the Taliban-al-Qaeda alliance.
· And, again, Pakistan has nuclear weapons. "

To The Point News - OPERATION ARROWHEAD RIPPER

To The Point News - OPERATION ARROWHEAD RIPPER

SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED FOR FULL ARTICLE ... (well worth it!)

Written by Jack Kelly
Friday, 22 June 2007

Imagine it's June 7, 1944, the day after the D-Day invasion. You pick up your newspaper. There's no mention of Normandy on the front page, and only a brief reference to it in a roundup story on an inside page.

The biggest battle since the invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein's regime is under way in Iraq. It's outcome could determine whether the war is won or lost. But our news media have paid less attention to it than to Paris Hilton's legal troubles.

The heart of the offensive is Operation Arrowhead Ripper, in Diyala province northeast of Baghdad, involving some 8,000 American and 2,000 Iraqi troops.

Many members of al Qaida fled from Baghdad to Diyala, which borders on Iran, when the U.S. troop surge began in January. There are thought to be between 1,000 and 2,000 hard core al Qaida fighters in Diyala, mostly in the provincial capital of Baquba.

'They are ready for us,' said former Special Forces soldier Michael Yon, now a freelance journalist embedded with the U.S. troops. 'Giant bombs are buried in the roads. Snipers have chiseled holes in walls so they can shoot not from roofs or windows, but from deep inside buildings, where we cannot see the flash or hear the shots...Car bombs are already assembled. Suicide vests are prepared."

...

"The U.S. ability to shift 10,000 coalition soldiers into a major operation outside Baghdad in the midst of a major security crackdown is the mark of significant operational flexibility," said STRATFOR, a private intelligence service. "This flexibility will allow the United States to keep pressure on the jihadists and thus impede their ability to plan complex operations."

Chiefly because of a shortage of troops, American offensives in the past have tended just to push insurgents from one part of Iraq to another. Arrowhead Ripper is different.
"The idea this time is not to chase al Qaida out, but to trap and kill them head on, or in ambushes, or while they sleep," Mr. Yon said.

"The city is cordoned, neighborhoods are identified as friendly or enemy territory, the neighborhoods are then segmented and forces move in," wrote Bill Roggio in his invaluable blog, Fourth Rail. "The combat operations are then immediately followed by humanitarian and reconstruction projects."

Simultaneous offensives are being conducted in another insurgents' rat's nest, Babil province southwest of Baghdad, and in Baghdad neighborhoods where Coalition soldiers in the past have been reluctant to go.

Simultaneous offensives are the best way to gain decisive victory over a numerically inferior force, because they prevent the enemy from shifting forces from one front to another. The Union did not prevail in our Civil War until Grant attacked in the East at the same time as Sherman attacked in the West.

Our soldiers are being assisted by former insurgents who have turned against al Qaida. Unlike the Anbar Salvation Council on which it is modeled, the Diyala Salvation Front isn't strong enough to take on al Qaida by itself. But the intelligence its members provide could prove invaluable to our troops.

You haven't heard of the Anbar Salvation Council? Maybe that's because our news media have tended to treat good news from Iraq as no news. When Thomas Ricks of the Washington Post reported last September that a senior Marine intelligence officer thought Anbar province had been "lost politically," his story attracted enormous attention from his fellow journalists. Google lists 789,000 references to that one story.

The Anbar Salvation Council, a coalition of 41 Sunni tribes under the leadership of Sheik Abdul Sattar al Rishawi, has in very short order reversed that situation (if it were ever as dire as Col. Pete Devlin imagined). Al Qaida has been all but driven out of Iraq's "Wild West." But Google lists only 114,000 mentions of the Anbar Salvation Council. (Paris Hilton has nearly 76 million mentions.)

The Anbar Salvation Council model is spreading. The Diyala Salvation Front was formed in May. More than ten tribes in Baghdad and its suburbs have banded together to fight al Qaida, USA Today reported Tuesday.

If Arrowhead Ripper succeeds, al Qaida in Iraq will suffer a blow from which it may not recover. "In Diyala, both the foreign jihadists and their domestic allies are beginning to feel cornered, with few places left to hide," STRATFOR said.

But if Arrowhead Ripper succeeds, you may not hear much about it. A U.S. victory would be too embarrassing for those in the media who have staked their reputations on defeat.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is changing his party affiliation from 'Republican' to 'unaffiliated', a move certain to fuel talk that he is preparing for an independent run for president in 2008."

This could be 1992 all over again. Is he going to drop out (when his numbers are high) and drop in again (when the republican candidate polls better) ? Are dirty-trick Republicans going to crash his daughter's wedding too? I guess if it worked for the Clinton's once before it will work again. Bloomberg will be the 2008 Billionaire "Independent", that will divide the Republican base and elect Hillary. I'm sure the Clinton camp has conference calls on this strategy every day. Republicans will be clueless, and therefore unequipped, to battle this electoral strategy. Again. What a brilliant way to avoid McCain-Feingold finance laws.

Middle East Newsline - Iran Watch

Middle East Newsline: "IRAN EXPANDS HORMUZ FLEET

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Iran has expanded its naval fleet in the Straits of Hormuz, the passage for an estimated 40 percent of global crude oil shipments.
The U.S. Navy has determined that Iran has amassed a huge fleet of fast patrol boats in the 43-kilometer straits. The navy said the effort was led by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, responsible for strategic programs.
'This marks the implementation of Iran's swarm program, where dozens of armed speed boats attack much larger naval vessels from all sides,' an official said.
At this point, officials said, IRGC has deployed more than 1,000 FPBs in and around the straits. The vessels, armed with cruise missiles, mines, torpedoes and rocket-propelled grenades, were described as measuring up to 23 meters and could reach a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. "

My Favorite Politician, in 1992

Iraq Prime Minister writes today, in the WSJ

OpinionJournal - Featured Article:

"Our conflict, it should be emphasized time and again, has been fueled by regional powers that have reached into our affairs. Iraq itself is eager to build decent relations with its neighbors. We don't wish to enter into regional entanglements. Our principle concern is to heal our country. We have reached out to those among our neighbors who are worried about the success and example of our democratic experiment, and to others who seem interested in enhancing their regional influence.

Our message has been the same to one and all: We will not permit Iraq to be a battleground for other powers. In the contests and ambitions swirling around Iraq, we are neutral and dedicated to our country's right to prosperity and a new life, inspired by a memory of a time when Baghdad was--as Washington is today--a beacon of enlightenment on which others gazed with admiration. We have come to believe, as Americans who founded your country once believed, that freedom is a precious inheritance. It is never cheap but the price is worth paying if we are to rescue our country."

The Saddam-al Qaida connection, cont'd

WorldNetDaily: Naming names: The Saddam-al Qaida connection: "A letter by the member of Saddam's Al Mukabarat to a superior, dated Sept. 15, 2001, reported a pre-9/11 conversation between an Iraqi intelligence source and a Taliban Afghani consul.
The information had been released on the orders of National Intelligence Director John Negroponte, and the letter was reviewed by an independent Middle East analyst who concluded it appeared genuine.
The letter indicated bin Laden and the Taliban in Afghanistan were in contact with Iraq – noting a specific visit to Baghdad – and said the U.S. had proof Saddam's regime and al-Qaida were cooperating to hit a target in the U.S.
The documents also suggested the possibility the U.S. could strike Iraq and Afghanistan if an attack on the U.S. proved to be tied to bin Laden and the Taliban. "

I guess I wasn't the only one who was outraged at ABC

Still, no one mentions that Bruce Reidel was a former Clinton Assistant Secretary of State and has bascially spoken out against every tool and operation the Bush Admininstration has employed to defend our country.

This guy really believes that if we got the "real" 9/11 perpetrator, Osama been Missing, that someone this worldwide Islamic Jihad would end. Like Iran/Iraq/Syria has NOTHING to do with it.

ABC News Reporter Brian Ross Allows Clinton hacks to Warn Iranians of U.S. Plans

Here is the latest from hot shot ABC News investigative reporter Brian Ross ...

"Bush Authorizes New Covert Action Against Iran"

Well, it is not very covert now, is it? Nor is Iran's "secret" summer offensive (see previous post.)

Doesn't Brian Ross have a responsibility to report that Bruce Riedel is a Clinton operative? If he was Bush 41 team member, I'm sure it would have been plastered all over the article. I am confident this was leaked by Bush enemies trying to undermine Bush foreign policy. You would think the leakers were actually working for the Iranian Mullahs, that is how sickening this is to me. And to me, if you support this Islamo-Nazi regime in any way, even in something as ineffective as some stupid pro-Iranian propaganda hit piece on Bush 43, them you are in effect, supporting the very source and epicenter of worldwide terror and jihad. You are not fighting the good fight.

Could you imagine this headline in 1943?

To The Point News - Man Made Global Warming?

The Indiana Jones of the Right ... Dr. Jack Wheeler!

AIKIDO AND THE GLOWARMER FLEA
by Dr. Jack Wheeler

We're going for a wild ride here, starting on a log floating down a river, then go on a fling through the galaxy. On the way, we'll examine the extinction of the dinosaurs. We'll end up applying aikido to astrophysics as a way to de-subsidize the glowarmers.

Glowarmers - those who believe in the religion of Man-Made ("Anthropogenic") Global warming - argue that:

1. The earth's climate is getting dangerously warmer due to "greenhouse gases" that hold heat in the atmosphere so it can't escape into frigid space...

2. The greenhouse gas primarily responsible for this "greenhouse effect" causing global warming is carbon dioxide...

3. Human energy production and consumption (e.g., coal-fired power plants, internal combustion engines) is the primary emitter of the additional carbon dioxide causing the global warming...

4. Thus the solution to global warming is the drastic reduction of human carbon dioxide emissions.

This argument is so willfully ignorant of basic science that it cannot be attributed to stupidity. Indeed, a great many glowarmers are highly intelligent. It must be attributed to an ego-trip of absolutely monumental magnitude, of genuinely pathological proportions.

So lunatic enormous that the glowarmers' egos are like the ultimate joke example of egomania, the flea with a hardon.

The Egomaniacal Flea who is lying on his back on a log floating down a river admiring his erection, an erection he perceives to be so enormous that when the log approaches a drawbridge across the river he yells out, "Raise the bridge!"

The glowarmers are like the flea because - setting aside the wholesale misperception of how our atmosphere absorbs solar energy - carbon dioxide is a trace greenhouse gas, and the portion of it that's man-made is a trace of this trace.

Fully 95% of greenhouse gases is water vapor, which glowarmer apocalyptic computer models ignore. While there is less water vapor in drier climates like the Arctic and more in the tropics, averaged for all locations water vapor is between 2 and 3% of the atmosphere, while carbon dioxide levels are 0.04%.

There is sixty times as much water vapor, on average, in the air than CO2, which is why CO2 accounts for 3.6% of the "greenhouse effect" (water vapor accounts for 95% while methane, nitrous oxide, and other gases make the remaining 1.4%).

But of course most CO2 is produced naturally, such as by plants and the oceans, over 96.7% in fact. Human activity (those cursed gasoline engines in our cars, etc.) accounts for only some 3.2% of CO2 in the planet's air.

If you multiply 3.6% (0.036) times 3.2% (0.032), you get mankind's carbon dioxide contribution to the total greenhouse effect presently warming the earth: slightly more than 1/10th of 1%. One tenth of one percent. That's our total contribution.

All of the demands to de-industrialize America, drive less, "save energy," use less toilet paper, on and hairshirt self-laceration on, is to reduce that 3.2% of 3.6%, that infinitesimal one tenth of one percent. Raise the bridge!

As the evidence continues to overwhelmingly mount that the main driver of "climate change" - the actual ship in the river needing the bridge raised instead of the flea on the log with his microscopic weenie - is the sun's magnetic activity preventing cosmic ray-induced cloud formation (see The Death of the Argument for Man Made Global Warming, October 2006), an astounding finding of astrophysics has just emerged.

We all know what nailed the dinosaurs 65 mya (million years ago). Paleontologists call it the K-T extinction because it correlates with the K-T geological boundary ending the Cretaceous, which started 144 mya ("K" to distinguish it from the Carboniferous, 359-299 mya; "T" for Tertiary, 65-1.8 mya).

A meteorite six miles in diameter slammed into the present Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico with an energy of 100 trillion tons of TNT (or more than four billion Hiroshima-size atomic bombs), spraying a layer of the rare element iridium around the world as evidence.

We all know this - but what's less known is the K-T is only one of several mass extinctions life on earth has suffered over the last 540 million years for which we have a fossil record (there may have been earlier ones but critters then didn't have hard body parts to fossilize).

The worst was the "Great Dying" of the Permian-Triassic (P-Tr) extinction 251 mya, when 96% of every species in the oceans and 70% of every species on land became extinct.

Yet there is no evidence that these other mass extinctions were caused by a giant meteorite. What caused them has been a mystery to science - and now the mystery seems to have been solved.

It was solved by two guys in Kansas.

So I direct your attention to their paper, Do Extragalactic Cosmic Rays Induce Cycles in Fossil Diversity?, by Mikhail Medvedev and Adrian Melott, Professors of Astronomy and Physics at the University of Kansas.

It turns out that mass extinctions are cyclical - that is, they occur roughly every 64 million years or so - and this cycle correlates with our solar system's position in the galaxy.

Our solar system is in an arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. As the galaxy rotates with the arms spinning around the center, the solar system see-saws up and down with respect to the plane of the arm's rotation. The solar system doesn't stay flat in the center of the plane of rotation (the "galactic disk") but swings above it then back down below it in a cycle of... you guessed it, about 64 million years.

Thus whenever the solar system gets way above the galactic disk at the high point of the cycle, there's a mass extinction. When we're back down within the disk or below it, we seem to be safe from mass extinctions. (Not to worry - we're safe within the disk now. Recall that the K/T was meteorite-caused and is not a part of the cycle.)

So what are we protected from when we're inside or below the disk? What are we exposed to when we're outside and above it?

Massive flows of very high energy cosmic rays from outside our galaxy, coming from a set of galaxies the Milky Way is moving towards called the Virgo Cluster.

Just as the sun's magnetic field acts as an electronic umbrella shielding our planet from an overabundance of cosmic rays emitted by sources within our galaxy, such as supernovae, the galaxy itself has a magnetic field which shields us from cosmic rays from other galaxies.

These "extragalactic" cosmic rays (EGCRs) can have enormous energies, tens of trillions of electron volts (TeV) - to which our planet is exposed when the solar system is in the EGCR "bow shock," when we're out there by our lonesome north and above the shield of the galactic disk.

The correlation between EGCR exposure and mass extinctions is dramatically shown in this graph:

The red line is the CR Flux, our exposure to cosmic rays, which oscillates from high north above the plane to low south when below. The blue is number of species. Note where the blue line dips to almost zero midway between 200 and 300 million years ago. That's the Permian (P-Tr) Great Dying extinction.

So - we have the correlation, so strong it's thousand-to-one odds that it's chance. Massive exposure of the earth to cosmic rays causes mass extinctions. But how? What's the mechanism? Medvedev and Melott do not argue for one in particular.

They list a number of possibilities. Direct EGCR radiation can be lethal to organisms. Or it can damage DNA, causing negative mutations affecting a species' survivability. Or it can damage the ozone shield in our atmosphere. Or it can greatly increase nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere, which can also increase negative mutations.

One of the strongest possibilities, they believe, is the mechanism of "climate change" -- so much EGCR radiation causing such massive cloud formation for so long that it tips the planet into "global freezing," causing mass extinctions.

Further, the colder it is, the drier it is. Even with all the clouds, it rains less, for a cool climate reduces evaporation from the oceans. Thus global cooling causes global drought, a further driver of mass extinction.

Only additional "detailed research," Medvedev and Melott conclude, will determine which of these possibilities is the likeliest cause of mass extinction.

So now it's time for aikido. Aikido is the martial art that doesn't block an opponent's energy then counterpunches, but accepts and redirects an opponents' energy, using an opponents' own energy against him.

The primary force behind the Glowarmers is government money. Scientists are being paid billions of dollars in government research grants to prove global warming - for if they disprove it, the grants disappear.

There are two ways to deal with this. One is to eliminate government bribery, also known as "funding," for climate research. I, of course, would prefer that, but there's little chance. The other would be to redirect substantial funding away from glowarmers and give it to another scientific constituency - like astrophysicists.

Every dollar you take away from glowarmer scientists is a dollar they can't spend ginning up phony computer models ignoring such critical factors as water vapor.

Giving that dollar instead to astrophysicists studying the effects of cosmic rays on our climate might actually help discover the real cause of climate changes.

By using aikido on the Glowarmer Flea, his laughable egomania can be exposed, and real science can be conducted. Let's wish Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) and his colleagues on Capitol Hill all the best as they do so.

Mission Accomplished

FR EXCLUSIVE: "Mission Accomplished" banner was ordered by the Navy, not by the White House

NAVY WEBSITE ^ | 5-1-07 | DFU

Posted on 05/01/2007 2:40:20 PM PDT by doug from upland

Because today is the fourth anniversary of the commander in chief landing aboard the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN with the famous 'MISSION ACCOMPLISHED' banner, the enemies at home are going to attempt to use it for political purposes. I don't think I need to name the enemies at home. We all know them well. They are the ones who see defeat as politically beneficial to them and will do whatever they can to embolden the enemy and hurt our troops.

To get to the truth of the story, I phoned the media office of the 2nd Fleet in Norfolk, VA. The man who had the answers for me and graciously returned my call was Captain Conrad Chun.

'When something of such high level is planned, such as the landing of the commander in chief on the ship,' said Chun, 'there are several planning meetings. At one of the meetings was the idea for a banner that said MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.' The mission in this case, was the mission of the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN. The men and women aboard the nuclear-powered carrier accomplished their mission and stayed out for a record time -- 290 days. It was a very long cruise for them.

The banner specifically was designed to celebrate and memorialize the ship's successful deployment. According to Chun, they had no way to make the banner aboard the ship, so the White House was asked to have it made for them.

"There are still those who will doubt the story," said Chun, "but after speaking to those on the ship, I have no doubt that is how it happened."

On a side note, Godspeed to my former son in law Josh who is on the Nimitz now. Go, Navy!"

50 Reasons Why The Democrats are Hypocrites When it Comes to ENRON

I ran across this Enron piece on the web. It bears reminding, since the drive-by media like to associate the colossal Enron scandal and failure with Republicans only.

Charles Krauthammer on George Tenet

Charles Krauthammer on George Tenet on National Review Online

Quite frankly, I never felt comfortable with Tenet, a Clinton appointee, staying on as CIA Director under Bush. My conspiracy theory was that he "had something" on Bush. Of course, there is also a lot to be said for continuity in an institution such as the CIA. I would add that this continuity was not such a good idea after eight years of complacency and re-direction after the end of Cold War. Also, Clinton was the guy who had previously appointed John Deutch, who euphemistically "mishandled" classified information, and attempted to get Anthony Lake to succeed him. If I can remember why I disliked Anthony Lake, perhaps I'll mention it later. If I recall, he had a soft spot in his heart for the old Soviet system of government. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Check This out!!!! No more 411 charges!!!!

Google Launches Free 411 Service

Google has a new product in Google Labs called Goog-411 - a free telephone based information service that could eventually end all 411 charges. About 2.6 billion 411 calls are made in the U.S. each year, and it is a $7 billion a year business.

Goog-411 can be accessed by dialing 1-800-GOOG-411. The product is completely automated and there is no way to talk to a human for additional or clarifying information. You tell it your city and state, and then ask for a specific business or business category. For example, you can say "Giovanni's Pizzeria" or just "pizza".

You can get connected to the business, free of charge, and you can get the details by SMS if you’re using a mobile phone. Just say "text message".

GOOG-411 is using Google’s normal local business information available on Google Maps and elsewhere.

Washington Post tries to associate forged letter with Iraq-Niger-Uranium Intelligence

How Bogus Letter Became a Case for War - washingtonpost.com

I wrote a short reply to this article, but I am certain no one will read it. There are 29 pages of Netkooks calling for Bush/Cheney/Rove impeachment before me.

Oh well, here is what I wrote:

Yet another outrage from the Washington Post. The intelligence that led the British to conclude that Iraq DID attempt to obtain yellowcake uranium from Niger had nothing to do with these forgeries. To this day, The British STILL stand by the their conclusions. However, your phony story still fits the BUSH LIED! template, and helps you support the thesis that Bush waged an "immoral" unwise war against a phantom threat. (Netkooks, repeat after me: Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 ...) Strangely, Bush's record on honesty and telling the truth is remarkably clean, despite the mindless throngs that think if they repeat the refrain often enough, it becomes part of the national consciousness. It is unfair to peg these so-call 16 words in the State of the Union as the sole basis of labeling the President a liar. I suspect you are rehashing this forgery story to lend credibility to the REAL liar, Joe Wilson, who did such a bang-up "pool-side" intelligence report for the CIA, for which Congress' own Intelligence Committee identified him as the Kerry campaigner liar-hack he truly is.

Global Warming Heresy

I thought I'd post this opinion piece in its entirety, because it basically sums up the essential issues surrounding the "Global Warming" debate. Thank you, Walter Williams, for making explaining this topic to me so succinctly.

Global Warming Heresy
By Walter E. Williams
Wednesday, March 28, 2007

Most climatologists agree that the earth's temperature has increased about a degree over the last century. The debate is how much of it is due to mankind's activity. Britain's Channel 4 television has just produced "The Great Global Warming Swindle," a documentary that devastates most of the claims made by the environmentalist movement. The scientists interviewed include top climatologists from MIT and other prestigious universities around the world. The documentary hasn't aired in the U.S., but it's available on the Internet.

Among the many findings that dispute environmentalists' claims are: Manmade carbon dioxide emissions are roughly 5 percent of the total; the rest are from natural sources such as volcanoes, dying vegetation and animals. Annually, volcanoes alone produce more carbon dioxide than all of mankind's activities. Oceans are responsible for most greenhouse gases. Contrary to environmentalists' claims, the higher the Earth's temperature, the higher the carbon dioxide levels. In other words, carbon dioxide levels are a product of climate change. Some of the documentary's scientists argue that the greatest influence on the Earth's temperature is our sun's sunspot activity. The bottom line is, the bulk of scientific evidence shows that what we've been told by environmentalists is pure bunk.

Throughout the Earth's billions of years there have been countless periods of global warming and cooling. In fact, in the year 1,000 A.D., a time when there were no SUVs, the Earth's climate was much warmer than it is now. Most of this century's warming occurred before 1940. For several decades after WWII, when there was massive worldwide industrialization, there was cooling.

There's a much more important issue that poses an even greater danger to mankind. That's the effort by environmentalists to suppress disagreement with their view. According to a March 11 article in London's Sunday Telegraph, Timothy Ball, a former climatology professor at the University of Winnipeg in Canada, has received five death threats since he started questioning whether man was affecting climate change. Richard Lindzen, professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT, said, "Scientists who dissent from the alarmism have seen their funds disappear, their work derided, and themselves labeled as industry stooges." Nigel Calder, a former editor of New Scientist, said, "Governments are trying to achieve unanimity by stifling any scientist who disagrees. Einstein could not have got funding under the present system."

Suppressing dissent is nothing new. Italian cosmologist Giordano Bruno taught that stars were at different distances from each other surrounded by limitless territory. He was imprisoned in 1592, and eight years later he was tried as a heretic and burned at the stake. Because he disagreed that the Earth was the center of the universe, Galileo was ordered to stand trial on suspicion of heresy in 1633. Under the threat of torture, he recanted and was placed under house arrest for the rest of his life.

Today's version of yesteryear's inquisitors include people like the Weather Channel's Dr. Heidi Cullen, who advocates that the American Meteorological Society (AMS) strip their seal of approval from any TV weatherman expressing skepticism about the predictions of manmade global warming. Columnist Dave Roberts, in his Sept. 19, 2006, online publication, said, "When we've finally gotten serious about global warming, when the impacts are really hitting us and we're in a full worldwide scramble to minimize the damage, we should have war crimes trials for these bastards -- some sort of climate Nuremberg."

There are literally billions of taxpayer dollars being handed out to global warming alarmists, not to mention their dream of controlling our lives. Their agenda is threatened by dissent. They have the politician's ear; not we, who will suffer if they have their way.

Dr. Williams serves on the faculty of George Mason University as John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Economics and is the author of More Liberty Means Less Government: Our Founders Knew This Well.
